North Tyneside Sports Development are working in partnership with StreetGames, Widening Horizons, Sports Unlimited at Northumbria Police to develop sport within disadvantaged communities and makes sport accessible to young people regardless of their social circumstances.
The new project will be named Project Dusk which engages both community street sessions and volunteer opportunities within the borough from the age of 11yrs – 25yrs. The idea of the project is that anyone should not miss out simply because of where they live or how much money they have. Ambition shouldn’t be dampened because of circumstances.
So far this year 15 young volunteers attending a Young Volunteers in Walsall, One of these volunteers Alex Liddell walked away with £850.00 for a Family Fun Day Project which ran successfully during the summer weeks.
In October 7 volunteers were taken to The Hollowford Centre in Derbyshire, where they shared their experience with over 80 other young volunteers around the country and took part in outdoor activities such as abseiling, raft building and climbing.
There are now over 40 volunteers signed up on this project with their own ideas being pulled together to provide community sessions which will begin in the New Year. At present there are already 3 sessions running and have proven very popular.
