North Tyneside Skipping Festival 2010
Thursday 24 June 2010
This year's North Tyneside Skipping Festival was held between June 8-10 at The Lakeside Centre, The Parks Sports Centre and Marden Bridge Sports Centre.
The North Tyneside Sports Development Team, Skipping School and North Tyneside School Sports Partnership's worked in partnership to give schools the opportunity to enter one class of Year 5 pupils to participate in the Skipping Exhibition 2010.
Over the three days 916 children took part in the day.
Chris Corcoran, from Skipping School arranged to visit each school between February Half Term and Easter introducing the skipping skills and games to the Year 5 classes. He also provided guidance to the teachers on how to choreograph a skip-dance routine, which the class performed at the festival.
At the Lakeside the event consisted of a 2-hour workshop in the morning. Each school then performed their skip-dance routine in the afternoon.
At The Parks and Marden Bridge this year’s event ran in a different format from previous years. A half-day event took a competition format, consisting of a skipping workshop, skipping challenges & finish with skip-dance performances.
Overall the event was very well organised. All the children, teachers and staff had a fantastic time.
