North Tyneside Council have teamed-up with ASDA to help youngsters get sporty this summer.

North Tyneside Council have teamed-up with ASDA to help youngsters get sporty this summer.

For seven weeks, sports sessions are taking place throughout the borough's leisure facilities, with free spaces being allocated for children aged between four and 15.

The KidZone Summer Holiday Programme 2009 is now underway and offers a range of sporting activities in a safe, fun and friendly environment, including Brazilian soccer schools, tennis camps, climbing and swimming sessions.

As part of ASDA's Sporting Chance initiative, a certain number of free spaces are available, which are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Cllr Glynis Barrie, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "This is a fabulous opportunity which ensures children throughout North Tyneside have access to our wide range of facilities for free.

"We hope that this initiative encourages parents and children to come down and participate in sports they may not normally consider."

KidZone sessions are part of the council's Year of Sport, which aims to get as many residents as possible involved in sport and physical activity.

To book a place, parents can pick-up a Sporting Chance voucher from their local ASDA store or download a voucher from www.asda-sportingchance.co.uk.

They must then contact their local sports centre directly to confirm whether spaces are available for their chosen activity. On the day they must provide the voucher and complete a consent form.
