One of the last Civic Duties of the retiring Chair of North Tyneside Council was to present the annual badminton awards to “The Most Promising U12 Boy and Girl in Northumberland”.  These awards were established  nine years ago by the then Chair of North Tyneside Council, Councillor John Carter, who became a great supporter of badminton during his year in office.  Successive Chairs of North Tyneside Council have continued to present the awards each year.

The successful recipients this time were Sarah Wilson and Adi Menon, both chosen by Newcastle Performance Centre Head Coach Rob Wetherell for their commitment, hard work, and general improvement this season.   Councillor McClellan was delighted that for the second year in a row, one of the winners is from North Tyneside – Adi, who lives in West Allotment. Sarah hails from County Durham, but thanks to a birth qualification, plays for Northumberland.

A most enjoyable evening was had by the winners, their families, and other guests at the Civic Reception.
